NCC issues telecom operators ultimatum to block SIM cards without National Identity Number.

The Nigerian Communications Commission, NCC, has given telecom operators in the country two weeks to block SIM cards that are not registered with the National Identity Numbers issued by the National Identity Management Commission.

The declaration was part of resolutions reached during an urgent meeting of key stakeholders in the communications industry that was convened by the Minister of Communications and Digital Economy, Isa Pantami.

In a statement by the Director of Public Affairs at NCC, Ikechukwu Adinde, telecom operators that failed to comply with the directive risked withdrawal of its licence or heavy penalty.

Adinde added that a ministerial task force comprising the minister and all the CEOs would serve as members to monitor compliance by all networks.
