President Buhari reaffirms commitment to ending violence against women

President Muhammadu Buhari has reiterated the commitment of his administration to curb the exponential rise in cases of violence against women and girls.

He said this would be done by supporting the Chairman of the African Union, President Cyril Ramaphosa of South Africa, in his call for a treaty to end violence against women and girls at the African Union Summit in February next year.

The Nigerian leader who disclosed this when he hosted representatives of Nigerian women in the Presidential Villa, Abuja, said although the country was yet to achieve the thirty five per cent affirmation on the participation of women in governance, the current administration intends to exceed the benchmark.

The president also reaffirmed his commitment to end child marriage as well as boost girl-child education in all parts of the country.
