Ambush of Mexico City chief blamed on Jalisco cartel

A shooting suspected to be carried out by a drug cartel in Mexico City has left its police chief injured and two of his bodyguards dead.

Omar Garcia Harfuch has pointed fingers to Mexico’s most powerful drug gangs, the Jalisco New Generation Cartel for carrying out the act.

A 26-year-old woman traveling in a car with relatives to sell street food nearby was also killed in the gunfire.

President Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador and Mexico City Mayor Claudia Sheinbaum said the attack showed that authorities were putting pressure on criminal gangs in the capital, which rarely witnesses such brazen outbreaks of violence.
