Lagos Denies Giving Licence To Motorcycle Operators

Lagos State Government has denied giving licence to any company to operate commercial services with motorcycles popularly known as Okada, following a ban it placed on the means of transportation in six local governments and nine local council development areas of the state.

Commissioner for Information and Strategy, Gbenga Omotosho said what government had been trying to do was to regulate commercial motorcyclists so that their excesses could be curtailed.

Omotosho, also said the State Government decided to enforce the ban after a robust assessment of the debate on the rate of accidents in the state, saying Lagos State University Teaching Hospital recorded about one hundred and four thousand accident cases involving Lagosians with broken arms and legs.

The Commissioner also made a clarification on the ban, saying that courier services operators are allowed to ply all routes because they do not constitute so much danger.
