As the outbreak of Lassa fever begins to draw concern in all parts of Nigeria, Minister of Health, Dr. Osagie Ehanire, says research plans are in gear for the development of the Lassa fever vaccine to proffer a lasting solution to the disease.
Ehanire made this known at a news conference in Abuja, saying Lassa fever was preventable and could be treated.
He who pointed out that the disease could be treated when the patient presented himself early to a health care facility, stressing that Nigerians should take it as a point of duty to maintain personal, environmental and food hygiene by proper storage of food to avert the disease.
According to him, there had been an increase in the number of cases reported across the country.
Emerging reports have confirmed the case of two hundred and fifty-eight, Forty-one deaths in Nineteen states with a majority of the cases being from Ebonyi, Edo and Ondo States.
