Ikorodu and its environs have been identified as areas in Lagos State, where violence against women and children is on the increase.
This was the consensus of participants at a two-day capacity building workshop for community Advocates on the Elimination of Violence Against Women and Girls in Ikorodu Local Government Area, organized by an NGO, Spotlight Initiative.
Program Coordinator, Centre For Women Health and Information, CEWHIN, Adebanke Akinrimisi charged participants to personalize the campaign of violence against women and children by being passionate.
Ngozi Nwosu-Juba, in her presentation, ‘Defining Gender-based Violence’, charged parents to stop limiting their children’s abilities by allotting deferent responsibilities to children on the basis of gender.
An Advocate for Women and Children, Modupe Sahid-Adebambo, warned parents to be extra vigilant, as perpetrators of violence against children were always trusted people around the family.
