Commisioner canvasses understanding of Public Procurement process by LGs in Lagos.

The need for proper understanding of Public procurement process, law and regulations by all Local Governments and Local Council Development Areas has been emphasised.

Lagos State Commisioner for Local Goverments and Community Affairs, Yetunde Arobieke, who made this known at the Advocacy Programme on Procurement Process for Local Governments and Local Council Development Areas, said this was crucial for the attainment of Lagos State Government’s development goals and objectives.

Arobieke stressed that the state government, which understood the importance of Public Procurement Process to effectiveness of service-delivery and good governance, was committed to creating awareness for its officials.

While noting that the Public Procurement Act was enacted to strengthen weak institutions, the Commisioner urged Chairmen of Local Governments in Lagos to update their knowledge and understanding on Procurement Process, laws and regulations.

In his remarks, Lagos State Head of Service, Hakeem Muri-Okunola, who was represented by the Permanent Secretary, Public Service Office, Samson Ajibade, charged Local Government chairmen to ensure compliance with Public Procurment Process, law and regulations.

Earlier in his welcome address, the General Manager, Lagos State Public Procurement Agency, Fatai Onafowote, commended Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, for ensuring that the knowledge of Public Procurement Process, law and regulations was deepened in the state.
