Presidency disowns Third term call by support group

The Presidency has disowned a support group’s commentary, advocating for constitutional amendment to give room for presidential third term limit to enable President Muhammadu Buhari to extend his tenure beyond Twenty-twenty-three.

According to a statement by the President’s Senior Special Assistant on Media and Publicity, Garba Shehu, no circumstances would warrant the president to seek third term in office.

Sheu insisted that President Buhari intended to serve his full second elected term in office, and there should be a general election in which he would not be a candidate.

Noting that the call was wrong and unconstitutional, he reminded that there was an attempt to change the Constitution to allow for the then incumbent president to stand for a third term.
