Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu has launched the Lagos State Blue Box Recycling Program at The Simpson Transfer Loading Station, Lagos Island.
The Governor stated at the Launch of the Blue Box Program organised by the Ministry of the Environment and Water Resources, Lagos State Waste Management Authority, LAWMA, that it was aimed at driving the green economy through community engagement.
He said Surulere and Ikoyi had been chosen as selected location for the pilot scheme adding that to ensure smooth implementation, LAWMA had been directed to work with the community.
Also at the event, First Lady of Lagos, Ibijoke Sanwo, said the programme marked another significant landmark to make the environment healthier and liveable for Lagosians, urging them to imbibe the culture of waste sorting as well as recycling.
According to the Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer, LAWMA, Olumuyiwa Gbadegesin, the Blue Box Programme was a single stream recyclable collection programme that will encourage recyclable materials from the general waste at the point of generation.
