Lagos and two other States in the country, Niger and Plateau, have been certified not affected by reported outbreak of measles in some parts of the country.
Suspected cases of the disease were recorded at Wusar Community in Igabi local government area, Kaduna State, where some children had died.
Speaking on the issue in Lagos, Head of Immunology and Vaccinology Research Department of Nigerian Institute of Medical Research, Yaba, Dr Bamidele Iwalokun, called for adequate planning to check such outbreak.
Iwalokun said major activities, such as population immunity of affected and surrounding areas must occur to prevent outbreak; adding that the second aspect would be to determine the percentage of infants, aged below nine months with protective maternal antibodies.
He declared it a major reason why primary healthcare system should be strengthened to offer quality routine immunisation and reactive immunisation services.
